UN CAMINO DE MAR Y MONTAÑA POR LA RUTA DE SERRA GELADA

Durante las vacaciones tenemos el privilegio de gozar de todo el tiempo libre que queramos tener. Hay quienes prefieren no salir del resort y aprovechar las vacaciones para descansar y relajarse, y hay quien sin embargo, prefiere aprovechar el tiempo para aventurarse y ver cosas nuevas. Como sabemos que hay gustos para todos los colores, Benidorm ofrece variedad de actividades para todos sus visitantes.

Para los más aventureros y activos proponemos la ruta por Sierra Helada, también conocida como Serra Gelada. Esta sierra es una alineación montañosa costera que separa Benidorm de Altea. Está formada por calizas y margas, y su flanco sureste da al mar formando impresionantes acantilados que le confieren un perfil singular. El conjunto de la sierra está protegido como parque natural y alberga una interesante duna fósil y dos microrreservas de flora.

La ruta de senderismo tiene una dificultad media, así que no os preocupéis, hay gente de mediana edad que también hace el camino de principio a fin, no es necesario ser un atleta para poder cumplir con el recorrido. El tiempo medio para cruzarlo es de 5 horas, así que hay que ir preparado con agua y algo de comida, pues si salís por la mañana seguramente se os haga la hora de comer a mitad de camino. La distancia a recorrer es de 11’9 km de un extremo a otro, con un desnivel de 825 m.

Ya preparados con unas buenas deportivas, mochila con agua y comida, y mucha energía a nuestras espaldas, ¡comenzamos! Iniciamos la ruta con la subida a la Cruz de Benidorm por la calle Berlín. Vamos dejando a nuestras espaldas los rascacielos y la arquitectura metropolitana de la ciudad. Es un camino asfaltado de subida que no tiene pérdida.

Llegamos a la Cruz y aquí se inicia el sendero, que está marcado con señales de pintura. Caminaremos por el cordal de la sierra, cerca del borde del acantilado y con terrenos de subidas y bajadas, y de gran belleza paisajística. Es una ruta de senderismo que también podemos hacer con niños, siempre con cuidado, e incluso con mascotas. Si vamos con perros, disfrutarán tanto o más que nosotros de recorrer todo este terreno. Lo que no es recomendable es hacerlo durante los días de intensa calor, pues a lo largo del camino las zonas con sombras escasean al ser de camino abierto. Recorrer la Serra Gelada es un plan perfecto para una mañana de primavera, otoño e incluso de invierno.  El sendero desde la cruz acaba en una pista asfaltada antes de llegar a las antenas, situadas en la parte alta de la sierra, a 435 metros del nivel del mar. Desde aquí podemos ver el Puig Campana, la sierra de Bernia y el Peñón de Ifach.

Una vez en las antenas, guiamos nuestra ruta al Faro del Albir. Podemos escoger dos caminos, seguir la pista asfaltada que baja hasta el aparcamiento del Faro, o continuar con el sendero natural de la sierra y seguir contemplando los paisajes de la Costablanca. Este segundo, se encuentra a la izquierda de la explanada de las antenas. Es un terreno más rocoso y descompuesto, donde veremos la flora típica de la zona. Continuando por el cordal de la sierra llegaremos al faro.

En el Faro del Albir podemos hacer una pequeña pausa para contemplar el paisaje marítimo que tenemos a un lado, y el paisaje montañoso que tenemos en el opuesto. Aquí podemos tomarnos un respiro, el camino es cuesta abajo y nuestras piernas nos lo agradecerán. Aquí el sendero a seguir está asfaltado y es fácil de recorrer, con un nivel bajo de dificultad. Hay quienes no disponen del tiempo o del estado físico adecuado para recorrer toda la ruta de senderismo de Benidorm a la Serra Gelada y se animan a hacer solo la ruta desde el Albir al Faro, que también recomendamos hacer, valdrá la pena. La ruta acaba en el aparcamiento del Faro. Cerca de aquí podemos encontrar parada de taxis o transporte público para volver a nuestro punto de partida.

A WAY OF SEA AND MOUNTAIN BY THE ROUTE OF SERRA GELADA

During the holidays we have the privilege of enjoying all the free time we want to have. Some people prefer not to leave the resort and take advantage of the holidays to rest and relax, and there are those who, however, prefer to take the time to venture out and see new things. As we know that there are tastes for all colors, Benidorm offers a variety of activities for all its visitors.

For the more adventurous and active we propose the route through Sierra Helada, also known as Serra Gelada. This mountain range is a coastal mountainous alignment that separates Benidorm from Altea. It is formed by limestones and marls, and its southeast flank faces the sea forming impressive cliffs that give it a unique profile. The whole of the mountain range is protected as a natural park and houses an interesting fossil dune and two flora microreserves.

The hiking route has a medium difficulty, so do not worry, there are middle-aged people who also make the journey from beginning to end, it is not necessary to be an athlete to be able to meet the route. The average time to cross it is 5 hours, so you have to go prepared with water and some food, because if you go out in the morning you will surely have lunch time halfway. The distance to travel is 11’9 km from one end to the other, with a difference of 825 m.

Already prepared with good sports, backpack with water and food, and lots of energy behind us, we started! We start the route with the climb to the Cruz de Benidorm on Berlin street. We are leaving behind the skyscrapers and the metropolitan architecture of the city. It is an asphalt road that has no loss.

We arrive at the Cross and here the trail begins, which is marked with signs of painting. We will walk through the mountain range, near the edge of the cliff and with lands of ups and downs, and great scenic beauty. It is a hiking trail that we can also do with children, always with care, and even with pets. If we go with dogs, they will enjoy as much or more than we do of traveling all this terrain. What is not recommended is to do it during the days of intense heat, because along the way the shaded areas are scarce to be open road. Touring the Serra Gelada is a perfect plan for a spring, autumn and even winter morning. The path from the cross ends in a paved path before reaching the antennas, located in the high part of the mountain, at 435 meters above sea level. From here we can see the Puig Campana, the Sierra de Bernia and the Peñón de Ifach.

Once in the antennas, we guided our route to Faro del Albir. We can choose two roads, follow the paved road that goes down to the car park of the Lighthouse, or continue with the natural path of the mountain and continue contemplating the landscapes of the Costablanca. This second one is to the left of the esplanade of the antennas. It is a more rocky and decomposed terrain, where we will see the typical flora of the area. Continuing through the mountain range we will reach the lighthouse.

In the Faro del Albir we can take a short break to contemplate the maritime landscape we have on one side, and the mountainous landscape we have on the other side. Here we can take a break, the road is downhill and our legs will thank us. Here the path to follow is asphalted and easy to navigate, with a low level of difficulty. There are those who do not have the time or physical condition to travel the entire hiking route from Benidorm to the Serra Gelada and are encouraged to do only the route from Albir to Faro, which we also recommend doing, it will be worth it. The route ends at the Faro car park. Near here we can find taxi rank or public transport to get back to our starting point.
